MkP, is your C: drive NTFS? I believe that would cause a compatibility error as neither win95 nor win98 will read/access an NTFS formatted drive.
Your best bet might be to run FDISK after booting to your win98 boot floppy. This page...
Daren, if I understand correctly, only the host has to be running XP/Pro. XP/Home includes the client side of Remote Desktop (Start / All Programs / Accessories / Communications / Remote Desktop Connection). XP/Pro can be either host or client.
Thanks all for the advice, and thanks bergis for the link. I checked my mobo specs (DFI CA61) and it only supports ATA66, but perhaps that is irrelevant if ATA100 is the standard, and beyond that, I'll probably be upgrading my mobo eventually anyway... And from what you and others have told me...
I'm considering purchasing a new hard drive (IDE). What features should I be looking for? Are there specific brands you would recommend for or against? How significant is the difference between 5400 & 7200 RPM? I guess I'm just looking for some general advice! :) TIA

I checked with a coworker who is significantly more experienced and knowledgable than I, and he confirmed the 2 points I had made earlier about the CD's being the same with the upgrade and full versions, and that a clean install with the upgrade cd will not copy any files from the previous...
Thanks for the clarification... I understand now what you are saying. I've never before heard of that happening, hence my misunderstanding.
I and several of my coworkers have done any number of clean installs of win98 and win2000 with the "Upgrade" CDs and never encountered this sort...
Mike, I think perhaps you and I are saying the same thing and just don't realize it.
I would never do an upgrade installation from one Windows version to another. I agree wholeheartedly that upgrade installations usually cause more problems than they solve.
What I'm saying is that you can use...
Regarding upgrades, I'm assuming this will be like previous Windows versions and you will be able to do a clean install with the "upgrade" edition of WinXP -- it will at some point in the installation ask you to insert the CD of your earlier version of Windows to verify ownership.
So...
This doesn't directly address your problems, but, depending on how you use ICQ, I would recommend Trillian (www.trillian.cc). It lets you use ICQ, YM, AIM, MSN, & IRC simultaneously. It's more stable than ICQ -- not nearly as flaky. It's also not as bloated. And it's free! However, it doesn't...

Toward the bottom of the article is the registry entry that needs to be added. You'll need to add it logged in as each separate user of the PC. Seems...
It's been too long of a day to try to decipher a Microsoft EULA, and some preliminary searching didn't yield significant results, so maybe somebody has an answer at their fingertips!
I seem to recall reading that one copy of Office XP could be installed and activated simultaneously on a Desktop...
Search (Start/Search/For Files or Folders) for a file named "Show Desktop". When found, right click/drag/copy this file from the search results window to the Quick Launch Toolbar.

If all else fails, you can use the Show Desktop keyboard shortcut -- hold down the Windows key and...
Tx for the reply. I too had found references to Kodak software in a web search, although that didn't make sense to me. I do, however, have Photoshop 6.0 installed, so perhaps there is a connection.
Tx again!
Just curious, I have a folder in the root dir of my Win2K drive called KPCMS, which contains only a subfolder CMSCP. Any idea what this is & why it's there? tia
I've been asked by an associate to research a problem a client is having with Outlook 97. Here are the details:
Outlook 97 running on NT4.0 (unsure which SP). There is a message stuck in the Outbox, cannot be sent or deleted. When Outlook attempts a "Send & Receive", a Dr Watson error...
