LB,
Thanks once again for the help. You are the best!
You were right about the speed problem associated with doing it the other way. It was impossibly slow!. I did it the second way you suggested and it's working beautifully.
Merci,
ibe
This might be an oversimplification...but did you try going into each running and/or group total and change the field referenced to? That's what I would do

I'm working with Crystal IX using an ODBC connection
Here's the source of my headache for the past couple of days:
I'm pulling records from one table (gifts) where each record could potentially have multiple gifts dates. In trying to determine how many new donors we get each year, I'm...
LB, I completely understand where you are coming from. And you are right, my previous post made illustrated exactly how you understood it. I guess even I did not know what I needed. So, no it's was not your mistake, it was entirely mine. And I probably wouldn't have seen it had you not brought...
All is well. I got exactly what I was looking for: going by current streak, how many donors have given y years in a row.
However, at first I thought LB's understanding of the problems was right, but after checking my own requirements I think SV's right. That is, in a case of an id with years...
You guys are simply AMAZING! I've not had the chance to try your suggestions yet, but I just wanted to say what a nice suprise this is; after a long frustrating friday last week, to come in to work today to this....delicious!
Thanks a lot.

Thanks guys. I think I understand your answer(s)....but I think I explained my problem wrong. The 3 consecutive was just an example. What I really need to know is how many consecutive years a donor has given. Therefore in the above example, I not only need to know ID 111 has given three...
I'm using Crystal 9, pulling from a SQL database, using ODBC connection.
I'm pulling records from two tables. One table has general info, and the other has gift info. The two tables are linked by ID. Since there are many corresponding gift records for a donors, I have my report grouped by ID...
Genius! I got to say, this is absolutely the best forum on the Net. Good, quick response, and best of all patience with a novice like me. I love it! I simply love you guys!
Thank you, thank you, thank you...

ibass, that's exactly what I was thinking. I really thought this was such a small problem that there had to be an automated solution like the one you mentioned. But unfortunately I don't this this is available in Crystal IX, because it didn't work for me.
Synapsevimpire, sorry about not...
Again, I'm new with Crystal
I've never worked with shared variables before. But if I understand the concept, by using it, I can take a value from the subreport and display it on the main without having to "insert" the subreport directly into the main report....right? Cool.
However, it doesn't...
I'm working with Crystal Report 9.
When I export a report that has a subreport in it to Excel (Excel 2002)using the "Data Only" option, instead of printing on the same row as the record, the subreport value is printed in its own row. How can I keep this from happening, and keep this value on...
Thanks a lot. It works
Though I must say, I don't get it
Maybe I don't remember much of the programing I learned back in college, but looking at the formular, I thought it would assign "1" to even those ID's that have other color TAGs as long as they have "red". Maybe the selection formular is...
I'm working in Crystal 9 on a database I'm not too familiar with. The primary key seems to be a combination of multiple fields. Hence I have records that are almost identical with only slighth variation in a field or two. Or maybe there is no primary key.
Anyway, I'm not sure how to explain my...
Thanks all. Ibass, you were right on point. It work perfectly!
Maybe for a little education, can you tell me why mine didn't work? Because I think it's basically the same, except you switched the argument upside down.
Thanks a bunch

I'm working with Crystal Report 9, and here is what I have in the Record Selection Formular window:
{contact_calls.solicitor} = {?Select_Solicitor} and
{contact_calls.drive_code} = {?Select_Drive} and
{contact_calls.regarding} = {?Select_Regarding} and...
Thanks everybody. I did it. As you all suggested (one way or the other) I created a grouping, and inserted all my info in that section, then I suppressed the detail section. Though the record count stayed the same, it only showed one distinct reference to a record, and when I exported it to...
Thanks for the response. But I don't think I understand.
I don't have any grouping on my report that I'm aware of. I'm thinking there has to be a button in crystal you can turn off and on to get this effect. Or maybe it has to do with the way the two tables are joined, but I can't for the...
Keep in mind, I just started a new job and using Crystal literally two weeks ago. So if my question is really elementary, that's why.
With that in mind, here is my question:
How do you limit your result to only one occurence of the primary key (Account Number)?
I'm working with two tables where...
