It does exactly the same thing when I try to boot up from a disk. It simply beeps twice and then flashes the cursor and then nothing. It's very bizarre.

Would anyone have any suggestions on where I might find some help from regarding this? I don't have any kind of contract with HP/Compaq as the machine is fairly old. Any help would be very very much appreciated. Thank you, Alastair
