Well hes not wasting the extra money/features of the drive that he can't use at this time to its fullest, he/she is planning to use the drive in a future build. Makes sense to have the drive that he can carry over, and not have to get a new one to replace it.

To have (1) Sata HD (500gb) as the XP op system on it.
Another (1) Sata HD (500gb) with evenutally Vista on it.
And be able to have it as Duel Boot, where during boot it will ask qwhat one I want to run.
Also another (2) Sata Hd's with 500gb for storage that can be accessed...
Yea as far as the DVD R - or +, the standard now is the +, ot you will see +- together.
Also DVD+R is a disc that allows multiple layers for one disc where as dvd-r only allows one layer.
Multi layer DVD+R can allow little extra capacity per disc than DVD-R.
