Use the "fx" utility to do so. You can find information on how to use fx on the man page, or via http://techpubs.sgi.com (excellent web site).
If the drive is not holding the OS, this is easy. Use "fx -x" to split the disk as you like, then make a filesytem on each slice...
We had been running Oracle on two different SGI systems until recently. Oracle has dropped SGI as a platform for 9i, and so we've been migrating these two instances over to the solaris platform.
We haven't implemented CIFS on any volumes yet. We have only used it for NFS.
Is the performance disappointing because it doesn't perform better than your old CIFS server (I am assuming you were using a Windows NT File Server) ? Or is the performance worse than your old server ?
