    Using two ADSL connections

Looking for some pointers here on how to use two different ADSL lines for different traffic. Currently, I have an Active Directory domain with about 20 PC's on it. I have an Exchange server with a fixed IP address on one of my ADSL lines. I also have a WatchGuard firewall between the ADLS...

    Advice on network setup

Well, funny you should mention the DHCP server as I have replaced the Windows Server with Ubuntu Server and I think the Windows machine (which was a domain controller) acted as DHCP server! And its still in the network - not long now before I kill it! But the network is definitely working much...

    Advice on network setup

OK, got it all working and actually quite easily. By chance? Probably! I switched the switch into Managed mode and logged into the switch using the default IP address of 192.168.2.1 with the default username of admin and no password. I set the IP address for a free IP address in my private...

    Advice on network setup

Thanks Vince I'm going there today to check out the switch. I don't know if it is in Unmanaged or Managed mode so that might give me clues (if it is in Managed mode). UNmanaged it should work out of the box, so the manual says.

    Advice on network setup

Hi Not sure this is the right place for this but I felt it was the most suitable given the nature of my query. I have a small network setup which contains 3, or maybe 4, network devices which 'manage' the comms. Recently, the ADSL was upgraded and a new BT (this is in the UK) modem was...

Mail function - working in background

Yes, it would seem that my host doesn't allow this. I'm using a reseller package which ultimately means its shared hosting and apparently they don't allow this on shared hosting. Might be time to look at a dedicated server! And yes, I was afraid that might be the case with AJAX and navigating...

Mail function - working in background

OK, Heart have now stated that "The problem here relates to the nature of PHP as a CGI module - This is not actually supported on our shared platform however a work around may be to change your command interpreter over to PHP5-CLI which does exist on our platform as a temporary work around for a...

Mail function - working in background

Tried this on my Heart server and it doesn't work! Tried removing the STDOUT and the background fork without success. Heart have stated the system() command is fully functional! Obviously not if I can get it work elsewhere! Let's see what they say now ... This is driving my to alcohol!

Mail function - working in background

OK, I contacted my server provider and they have confirmed that everything should be ok with running the system command. What I have done on another server is really simplify things. I have my initial script: <?php if (isset($_POST['submit'])) { // Do something when the Send button is clicked...

Mail function - working in background

Welcome back jpadie! I don't have command line access but I have tried running the job as a CRON job and it runs fine, which uses the same command as you have detailed. I'll ask my server provider if I would be allowed to run a command like this within my code.

Mail function - working in background

Feherke. Could I be so bold as to ask for a working example of this solution? Try as I may, I simply cannot get the script to run in the background. I can get the script to run through a cron job and even get it to run if I direct my form to it, but I simply cannot get the script to run using...

Mail function - working in background

Exit code was 0. What does that mean? is there a list of codes? Still not sending email (executing script)!

Mail function - working in background

I have also tried amending the action of my form directly to the mailingloop.php script and this works fine. So the issue is either that I am not hitting the 'system' statement in my switch or the command is not executing properly. I believe I am hitting the switch statement as the other...

Mail function - working in background

Still can't seem to get it to work. I have tried: system('/usr/bin/php5 /path/to/public_html/admin/mailingloop.php'); and also system('/usr/bin/php5 -f /path/to/public_html/admin/mailingloop.php'); using the -f switch to execute a file...

Mail function - working in background

OK, I can't seem to get this to work. I have created a script which is just a simple mail script - it doesn't actually take any variables from my form, I just want to test the execution of the form. I have created a cron job on the script and it does get executed. But when I put this in my if...

Mail function - working in background

I tried this but it doesn't seem to work. I created a simple PHP script that sends a single email (using the PHP mail function) but the mail was not sent so I am assuming the script was not run. When I call the script, do I not need a PHP processor proceeding the script??

    Schema Question

Ah! I had thought about that but thought it might complicate things slightly for me. But you are absolutely right. Thanks.

    Schema Question

I'm putting together my own mailing list manager (built in PHP and mySQL) and I have a question on managing users. My thoughts were to have two DB tables: 1. emails table and 2. Lists table. The link would be that each user in the 'emails' table would have a key to the 'Lists' table. That work...
