I was there last evening doing a software thing and sent a message to a mailbox and indeed that did the trick...it would have driven me nuts looking for that. Is that particular Y/N option documented anywhere? Thank you so much for the tip. I can finally get them to start recording...
I have used PUTD and NO, the VPS isn't sending anything to the PBX. I only get "thank you" or the disconnect message - all other DTMF and status is displayed properly. I need to check the all calls xfer setting....that may indeed be it. Hopefully...I am on site every Tuesday, but may get down...

Are you referring to "covering extension" or just making sure mailbox number match extension numbers? If the latter, yes all mailboxes have matching extensions.
