Well,
Numbers f.e. might be stored as binary data,
a 1 would probably take 2 or 4 bytes and be stored as
a "01 00" or "01 00 00 00" sequence.
You also might do the following:
DUMP/RECORD=COUNT=1 CUST.DAT
And compare the data you see with the first record on your file.
If there are...
Convert/DOCUMENT is not what you are looking for (Wordperfect -> WPS+ and back, after buying the conversion tools).
You want to look in to convert/FDL.
To be able to use that you should be able to just type the file to your screen and it should still be readbale.
(If it contain binary stuff...
If it is RMS index sequential Files have you looked into CONVERT?
(HELP CONVERT),
To make a clean FDL just do an ANALYZE/FDL from f.e. your LOGIN.COM file. And try to convert the "database" to
ascii.
There might be a problem if the file contains binary data (numbers, dates etc.not converted...
Some questions:
What is the "database" you mention
Oracle, Sybase, etc. etc.
Might it be you mean RMS (file system handler of VMS)
Index sequential Files?

Well, two default gateways will not work!... ever.
You have a network that yoy manage with private (10.x.x.x/8, 172.16.x.x/12, 192.168.x.x/16) or a range of public address possibly subnetted.
Those are internal, you KNOW the addresses. So you can add routes to that network.
For all address you...
ucx set config we0 /host=<ip> /net=<netmask> /broad=<broadcast>
ucx set we0 /host etc. (again, notice no config)
will change the life parameters.
kind regards,
Nico Baggus
