Just to let everyone know, the problem looks likely to have been caused by one of the WD Raptor drives. Although it was passing all WD diagnostics and surface scans last week it failed. I have reloaded my system onto the other Raptor drive and it appears to be working fine. I have also changed...
Hi
I know its not the heat as the entire system is watercooled with 2 additional front fans and 2 rear fans (all 120cm) blowing through the entire system and all drives are spaced out with at least 1 bay gap between them. I have been unable to get another drive at the moment so will leave the...
I work for a large corporation and we have been running Video7 17" TFTs for the last few months now and have had no problems. No one has complained and all users are happy with the screens. They are nothing special, just standard 17" TFTs which are available at a good price amd are nice and clear.
Have you tried a program called VLC? (its a free video viewer that plays nearly everything you throw at it?) Run a search in google for it. It may help check if its the system
I havent seen the new HP Pavilions but a lot of the older ones you could actually burn the recovery data to CDs (there was a utility in the program files to do it). Also you may be able to order the recovery cds from hp for a postage fee, in which case you will never need that drive again...
tried the fixmbr option on first signs of the problem. The correct OS drive is always C: (raid drive) and yes I do need to load the drivers during the cd bootup (both drivers stored on floppy (and have 2 copies of driver just in case))
Have checked the disk management util and nothing seems...
Regarding the hard drive, have you checked the jumper configuration as a lot of drives can be configured with a 32Gb clip (this is done with the jumpers) which limits the drive to 32Gb. Also how is the cd drive configured?
I should add, the hard drives are configured as follows:
Main C Drive contains the \Windows OS. This is a Raid Striped Drive running on an NVidia Raid controller built into the mainboard.
There are 2 IDE hard disks (D, E) running on the IDE controller as Master and Slave on the primary (both...
Right, have checked msconfig and there was no boot.ini (which could well be a major part of the problem!!!). Have created a boot.ini from memory & a bit of net research which reads:
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]...
I have been investigating this over the weekend and could do with some further help!
I removed all non essential drives and left the DVDR, the Raid Drive (OS) and the Floppy and still get the fault. What i did by accident though on one reboot I forgot to press the key to start XP install to get...
sounds like a failing hard disk. When you ran scandisk, did you check and run a complete surface scan and if so did it show any bad sectors (a sure fire way of a failing hard disk). As edfair suggested, make sure you have a backup of any important data.
What make of hard disk is it? Reason I...
Thanks for all the suggestions. Have just verified all the bios settings and all appear correct. Have checked IDE and SATA configs, boot priority and drive priority and all appear correct so doesnt appear to be that but just in case I am going to check for any BIOS updates later
No, there was no OS on the drives as before going into this machine they were running individually and not as a raid so when I created the Raid it started blank. During XP install I also choose to do a full format. The other drives are installed after install. I am going to disconnect the other...
Yes the drive is one of the 120Gb IDE drives but are used for data and games rather than OS. All drives have been formatted since installation in the new system. All drives have also been put back in the old machine and tested and are all fine (full surface scans etc) (and formatted before going...
Have run a full virus check already and found nothing. Have checked all drives in the system and they all run fine. I should have also pointed out the drives worked fine in another machine and I have also dropped them into another machine since building the new machine and they worked fine in...
Hi all. I need a little help with an issue on my home PC.
Have currently just built an Athlon X4600 X2 system running on an Asus SLi Premium S939 Mobo. (runs Nvidia chipset). I have configured on there 2 Western Digital Raptor 74Gb drives as a striped raid on the NVIDIA sata raid controller. I...
