    Installed Patch listing.

Well if you have cigwin installed you can do this from the windows directory - find \$Nt* -name spuninst.inf -exec cat {} \; | grep NtServicePackVersion.*Text > `hostname`_patch_list Thanks to the liberal use of $ signs in the path you can't do it from anywhere else... ( well maybe you can but...

    Binding protocol to network adapter

Hi Phil, Have you tried going into properties on Network places / Advanced / Advanced settings and moving the ethernet adapter you want it to use to the top of the list so it (hopefully) binds to that one ? I have a couple of pieces of software that this works for. Give it a try. Don

    Installed Patch listing.

I have a number of Win2K / XP systems that I need to get some software inventory information about what patches are installed. I would like to find a command line tool that will provide me with a list similar to what "showrev -p " does for me in Solaris. I know I can go to the installed...

    DHCP

Sorry, but you can't have it both ways... With all the MS systems you have to pick one way of the other, UNIX's would let you change without rebooting but you would have to configure the interface manually each time... ( you would still have to put it into DHCP mode to get the address from the...

XP system Hardware change - renders system UNUSABLE !!!

The reason for the swap was a dead MB. With the *new* board in place the system would not boot up under any circumstances, and could NOT get to the F8 boot menu. It was totally unusable. I downloaded the Boot Floppy creation image from the MS web site ( booting from CD was still giving me...

XP system Hardware change - renders system UNUSABLE !!!

My *other* system was having issues so I swapped out the motherboard and when XP "tried" to come back up, it complained of problems with new hardware having been added to the system and recommended I *remove* hard disks and controllers I had possibly added after running a Anti-Virus...

    WIN2K Networking Blues

Hi Securit, Did you configure the Netgear box for DHCP ? If you go to each system do they all have IP addresses in the range that your router is handing out, netmask and default router, DNS etc... One nasty things about Win2K is it's automatic IP addressing ability. If it is configured for...

Multiple IP addresses on Win2K prof.

I have a need to have multiple IP addresses available on my system to work with a piece of software. I have a DHCP address for my LAN connection, a DHCP address for the VPN *virtual* interface to get back to the Company LAN across the *wilds* of the internet and I have the MS-Loopback adapter...

    Syslogd and forwarded Syslog messages

One router - one Unix system /etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost loghost I *believe* the router is setup to forward syslog messages to the UNIX box. But I don't know If the UNIX box will/or is catching them. ( if they are being generated?) syslogd.conf there are clear example of how to edit...
