its ok, i ended up avoiding Dell helpful software completely...
got to it from computer management and disk manager...
right click on the drives and i could set up raid from there...
used 1 disk as independant shadow for the sys drive and setup 3 of the remaining disks as raid5 for the data...
2nd cpu is overkill...
run c:\winnt\system32\taskmgr.exe
...and watch...see how much time your cpu spends @100%?
clients, yeah no prob, esp when some apps start to get recompiled to use 2 cores...
i would go SATA m8y...
SCSI has had it's day...blow the spin speed, all noise and power consumption...bandwidth rules...
SATA2 = 300Gbs is around the corner?
the I in RAID stands for inexpensive...compared to SCSI, that's what SATA is?
;)
i'm guessing, but i'd say the controller has gone...
(if nothing has changed on the system)
my advice, (for what it's worth)
start thinking about replacing the raid controller...
...and preferrably have redundant raid controllers on your next system...;)
how do i know what "perc" i've got on my 2400???
i put my "server assitant" cd in and it gives me EIGHT options for (what i know is) the adaptec scsi controller?
i opened the box, does it say what it is, on the inside?
you bet it don't!
(sighs)
i finally gave up installing w2k for the 10th time...
now i need help...
question:
can i setup a raid5 so that it appears as drive C or do i have to install windaz onto "C", then setup logical volume "E" or something, that i can THEN install my s/w on?
i've done this at home ok...
