    poweredge 2600 2nd processor - won't boot

Before installing second processor, did you change the drivers for dual procesors in Device Manager? If not, you have to reinstall Windows. (I assume you are running Windows)

    New Dell Poweredge Server options

I know you will ask why I want to make them, here is the answer: I am doing all this for learning purposes, finish this by the end of the year and I want to get as much experience as I can here, because I don't think someone else would give me such a big budget for me to play with ;) . Thanks again!

    New Dell Poweredge Server options

Ok. I have not bought the servers yet. Finally I got a contact in Dell which will help me buying those servers. Just a thought: -Two new servers (you know what they're supposed to do) -In a couple of months I will be needing another two (for exchange, even though I have no idea how to migrate...

    New Dell Poweredge Server options

Thanks for your advice!! I tried to configure the server with the PERC4eDC-PCI Express, 128MB Cache, 2-External Channels; and it looks like it's only external channels none internal. It doesn't have 2 internal 2 external because it gives me errors saying: -Requires that you make one of the...

    New Dell Poweredge Server options

Than you all for your help!!!! I really appreciate it Servers will have a RAID1 36GB 15K for OS and RAID5 300GB*3 for Data. (In RAID10 is n/2 what is it on RAID5, thanks) No SAN, no NAS. I suppose NAS are good OS savings no HW savings (except if you buy the SATA HD's), and SAN I do not even...

    New Dell Poweredge Server options

RAID10 surely is expensive!!! N/2!!! But now I am more confused on what to buy... Instead of having both servers with lots of storage (more money spent) (And the upcoming exchange servers as well) Buying a cuple of NAS or SAN would be better by copying one to another (DFS or clustering)...

    New Dell Poweredge Server options

Thank you for all your help I will use the media bay for the OS RAID1 15K 73GB and the 1x8 Hot Plug SCSI Hard Drive Backplane for data. I will use 1 PERC4/DC, 2 Internal Channels Now you have me worried about using RAID5....since Dell only gives RAID 0,1,5,10 solutions; (RAID6 I can't find it...

    Dell vs. HP

A couple of Dell servers here. I have never used HP. But I consider that Dell prices are too high, what I do is buy only the necessary from them and then the rest buy it somewhere else and install it myself (2nd processor, memory) Like this you would spend 2 or 3* less. Dell support....never...

    Dual Processors

As said before, with all the applications you run I am just amazed your system hasn't crashed. Dual processors is inevitable, if you are on a budget, but the server from dell with 1 processor and low amount of RAM and buy the 2nd processor and RAM somewhere else and install it by yourself. (Is...

Dell Poweredge 2600--How do I expand 4 GB system partition?

Choices 1)Create an extended partition (no fault tolerance at all, I personally won't do that) 2)Ghost your Partition (Not ghost entire HD) -Double check the consistency of the partition image -Install the new HD's. I suppose you will move the entire data to the RAID5 and leave the RAID1 as...

    What server to buy?

Also if you know how to install hardware, you should highly consider just buy 1GB of RAM at Dell, and the other RAM somewhere else... It costs 4* less. Also as previously said Processor and memory power is mostly needed here, I would recommend more than 4GB's of memory. If you check Dell's...

Choices: SATA or SCSI? -SATA 3.0Gbs internal data transfer rate is twice faster than SCSI -SATA (16MB) cache is twice than...
