    3com switches have protocol analyzers ie. "Network Supervisor", or you can communicate with the switch via the serial console port. Once conected you can access the database and download all the mac's conected to your net. (and/or switch)

    We have a 3Com Router/Switch, we can acces it via 3Com software that came with the Router or via the serial console port. This software gives us realtime status of all the ports and the status of the links. Hope this was of help.
