Hi All
this isn't a cisco specific question, but as I couldn't find a generic networking forum I figured this would be a good place to start. I'm currently troubleshooting an application level problem where the vendor says that there is a transparent proxy (vendor has no access to the proxy or...
Thanks for the reply. It was the system variable that I changed, and I'm not using runas or running cmd as another user. However, now after a restart it's working as expected. Im guessing that restarting explorer was the key here, but I have no idea why. Maybe I'll do some more testing...
Hi all
I've just run into some strange behaviour on my Windows 7 machine which I have no explanation for and I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on it. To give you some background - I use the keyboard more than the mouse, and to launch more applications I do Windows + R and type the...
Hi All
We have some PC's here which are working just fine for one user and they can access DFS shares no problem. However, when any other user logs onto those PC's, they are unable to access any DFS shares. The users can access the DFS root and can see the shares underneath, but when they...
I've got to be honest, I never heard of it either ... but I'm not expert :o) It was just when I noticed it in the output that imbaatthis posted that I thought I'd try it out. Seems to be a valid command on the IOS version on our switch so I'll go with that
Having just google "switchport trunk...
Actually, the command "switchport trunk allowed vlan except 89" would also do the trick, right ? Any advantage to one over the other ?

aah sorry, didn't look at the detailed config - now I see what you were getting at. That would definitely work, thanks for the reply
Out of curiosity, anybody have any usage scenario for the pruning option ?

Thanks for the reply, but we'd rather not do this if possible as it's one more thing to remember to do next time we add a VLAN when we DO want to carry that traffic over the trunk. This setup is a "one-off" so any more VLAN's that get added in the future would have their uplink over the...
Hi All
We have a two-port etherchannel linking a 2960 to a 3750. The etherchannel carries uplink traffic for all vlank's on the 2960. Now we would like to create a new VLAN (89) on the 2960, but we don't want to use the etherchannel to uplink the traffic to the 3750. Instead, we will have a...
Sorry for the late reply everybody
Unfortunately the problems are quiet infrequent which of course makes it more difficult to diagnose. We ran memtest86+ on the machines and it seems that the physical RAM is fine. The problem normally occurs when the users are shutting down, but not always...
I'm using Win 7 but same thing applies - I found a Power Toy that will do this for you. Now I can just click Start > Run > elevate cmd and it'll eleavate it for me
I can't seem to find it now but the below link might be it ... not 100% sure though...
Hi All
I've got 4 machines which have had BSOD's recently (numbers vary between machines). I've downloaded the MS debug tools and ran some debugging on the minidump files. The result seems to point to ntkrpamp.exe, and googling that does bring up alot of BSOD related topics. Can anybody...
OK ... just read the documentation once more & I think I understand now !! I presumed the device on the monitor port should still be able to send traffic (ie Ping) but now I realise it's purely for receiving traffic but not for sending. I'll try again tomorrow & post back
thanks again

Thanks for the replies guys, but the the port doesn't come up when I attach a device - it stays down. It's not "admin down" either (all though I did try the no shutdown command to no avail)
the documentation just says that this is by design but no explanation why. I don't see how you could use...
oops sorry ... yea, the actual config does say session 1 ... just a typo on the forum !

Hi All
I have an old Catalyst 2950 that I'm trying to use for some testing. I want to capture some traffic coming from a video conference to find out what it's doing.
I configured a monitor port using the command belowmonitor session 1 source interface FastEthernet 0/2 - 24 both

Hi All
We've just recently installed SCCM 2007 so I'm quiet new to it (I didn't configure it either unfortunately). We are using the remote tools as we have alot of users in small branch offices. Prior to this we used remote assistance, but we are finding the remote tools a bit better...
Thanks for the reply VinceWhirlwind ... I don't know why I didn't figure out that I could add port number to the access list :-)
What about the routing to non-adjacent devices (such as proxy server in our data center). Is this not possible ? Unfortunately the routers closest to the proxy...
Hi All
Our branch offices have a combination of Juniper firewalls and Cisco layer 3 switches (either one or the other depending on types of WAN connections etc). I want to use policy based routing to route all HTTP & HTTPS traffic to a proxy server in our DC to effectively create a transparent...
Hi All
We're currently preparing to move from ArcServe to Backup Exec 2010. We want to use CASO option at our head office to manage all the branch office servers. However, in testing it seems that I can't add an existing Backup Exec server to CASO. When I try to add a managed media server to...
