    Can Mod_rewrite rules be in file other than httpd.conf

    Someone was asking me this at work and I can't find any evidence it can. The concern was somehow by using rewrite rules you are allowing "access" to the httpd.conf file and it might get corrupted by some client purposely or inadvertently. Is that even possible?
