This is in packet tracer.
I was working on a lab someone did and there is a serial connection between two routers /w hdlc encapsulation.
R1 <-> R2 <-> R3
These two talk fine
R1:
Serial0/0/0 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
Hardware is HD64570
Internet address is 10.1.1.1/30
MTU...
I thought I knew what a valid IPv6 address looked like but obviously not.
So assuming you have only one set of ::'s, valid hex digits, the correct number of "16-bit sections", what can make an ipv6 address invalid?
Sorry if this is too vague.

So I setup a router with a 2.2.2.0 network on one side and a 2.2.3.0 network on the other.
It is not directly connected to either network.
I used RIP and got the expected problems.(when pinging 2.2.2.1 ir 2.2.3.1 it didn't know which RIP route to choose).
My question is what is going on...
I would like to view the details of some of the packets passing back and forth between my routers(inverseArp, OSPF, CDP) in packet tracer.
Anyone figured this out?
Bill
Using packet tracer I set up a frame relay switch(CloudPT), with 3 routers connecting to it(multi-point).(youtube had a video on it)
I set-up the dlci's in the CloudPT.
The only thing I did on the routers was something like this:
interface Serial0/3/0
bandwidth 64
ip address 10.1.1.102...
Wasn't sure if this should go in switches or routers...
When I set up frame relay in PacketTracer the "Cloud" usually has 3 serial ports.
But I was curious: In real life would one frame-relay switch have 100's of serial ports(seems unlikely), or rather dozens of switches with 8-12 serial...
I believe I am misunderstanding something.
I am using packet tracer to better understand ospf for the CCNA
I have a network with about 10 routers and all in area 0.
Where I am confused is that different routers seem to have different DR and BDR.
i.e.
Router3#show ip ospf neighbor
Neighbor...
I need to mount a dvd drive from one Sol10 box to another.
I used `share` to export the cdrom directory.
Used `mount` on remote machine and I can see the directory listing...
but I can't see any files, just directories.
Not a Solaris guru, any ideas?

I have a router which someone else configured.
It is expected to pull the configuration from the tftp server.
But it seems that it is not.
The confreg is 0x282, which quite frankly, I can't seem to figure out what this means...
Using a network simulator.
2-2950 clean switches.
Configure trunk line between them.
Configure 1 as a vtp server the other as vtp client
The vtp server I setup 2 vlans, 20 and 30.
The second switch never gets updated.
I set-up a domain name on the vtp server switch.
Still no update on...
If I have two hosts connect to the same switch. No vlans or anything funky going on. One ip address 192.168.1.100/24 the other is 192.168.10.200/24
So I thought you had to have a router or layer 3 switch for these things to communicate.
I thought the host would look at the subnet mask and...
Let's say I have two Ethernet interfaces on my router. One is given a 192.168.1 address and the other 192.168.2 address.
No default route or static route has been setup.
I then ping say 172.16.1.1
What does the router do? Does it just pick one interface to send the ping out on or not try at...
I have some Dell PowerEdge(2650) servers and I was wondering if anyone had experience installing CentOS/RedHat on them.
Basically, I know the scsi controller sees the hard drive, but when installing CentOS to a drive no drives show up. I don't see any options for scsi drives(there is one for...

Does anyone know if the power supply for a 800 series router will work in a 1700 series router?
From some reason there seems to be a dearth of power supplies for cisco routers. They actually sell for more than the routers on eBay.
Anyone know the reason for this?
Bill
Taking the CCENT(640-822) tomorrow.
I know it is simple stuff for some of you and I feel comfortable with the material but..
Anything you wish you knew before you took the test???
Bill
I have the below configuration. It works as expected.
username is prompted for with telnet and console connections.
What I don't understand is if I connect via telnet I am put into enable(privileged exec) mode. But if I connect via console I am put into user exec mode.
I think the aaa...
