Follows is a script I wrote for setting up a 2651.
The following is the proposed scerario:
Router connected to a DSL (or possible cable modem in the future) on FastEthernet0/0, to a LAN switch for our home on FastEthernet0/1. Modem handles authentication and logon, (by my understanding) it...
Some Cisco routers come with two ethernet ports (26X1, 26X1XM, 3725, etc.). Is it possible, desirable (easy?) to assign one of these ethernet ports for WAN and the other for WAN?
IOW, can the two ethernet ports be assigned different functions such as WAM and LAN?
Just got a 877 off of eBay (which might be part of the problem).
Most of the items were in sealed bags and looked new. Even the faceplate had the plastic film.
I followed the documentation to the letter, cabled the connections to the correct prots and double checked. Powered up the router...
or the 2621 and 2621 XM for that matter.
Is it more than the 140-1 validated crypto module (hardware accelerated crypto)?
(This question is asked in the context of using a 2621 or 2651 for home use with a 10mbs to 15mbs+ broadband internet, no planned VPN or crypto support, basic firewall.)...
Is SDM 2.4.1 the latest version of SDM? Is this version that I would use to congifure an 877? Or is there a later version that I should use?
If I shouldn't use SDM, what should I use?
(Yes, I just bought a used 877. Might as well bite the bullet and try to learn something new, even at my...
I'm considering getting an 837, 857 or 877 router. These routers support ADSL WAN connections. My question is what is the maximum speed/throughput across the ADSL WAN port on these routers? My reason for the question is that available DSL speeds are greater than 10mbit (the limit of the WAN...
Neighbor needs a router. They are using a 3Com that must be reset every few hours. Updates didn't fix reliability issues.
They are not technically agile and need something that is easy to set up and very reliable. They use three computers, a network printer and a Linksys wireless access...
I'm considering getting an 1811 to replace an 831. Can I use the same config for the 1811 as for the 831 (just changing the names of the interfaces)?
TIA
I know that the 831 WAN connection is a 10mb ethernet. I'm getting 5mb on a 6mb DSL connection through the router, 6mb when a single computer is connected directly to the DSL modem interface.
Is the 831 WAN actually limited to 5mb in either direction?
TIA,
Bill
I could hardly be happier with the performance of our 831. And it would not be running without the help of this group. Thanks to all that have helped!
The one thing I'd like (nice to have, not required) is for the router to get current date and time from an NTP server. Is there a command...
Recently our Cisco 831 home network router was power cycled. When it completed rebooting, it did not load startup config but rather just loaded the minimum config and reverted into initial set-up.
I successfully copied start to run (verified by sh run), but the setting didn't seem to work...
Bought a used Cisco 831. The panel lights indicate normal operation, but DHCP isn't working and I can't connect to CRWS at 10.10.10.1. Can't connect to internet.
Switch port lights indicate when a PC or other switch is plugged in. PC sees electrical signals from router. WAN port lights...
