can you treat a dwongrade of a dot relaease like an upgrade or do i need to default the server by restarting the server with the disc in and starting over?

I have my first LX 2.0 and have noticed that the ports keep going out of service randomly. reboots will fix it but not keep them from coming back. of course individually busying out the VM port will fix it too, but they keep randomly going out of service. anyone see this??

anyone ever see an old 8300 pickup with garbage when attempting to connect via PPP dialup? after resetting the modem it took the server down and rebooted itself. after the reboot it is still picking up with garbage.
