I've set up a samba server with a share with directories and files that should be readable by anyone.
I can see all the directories/subdirectories but cannot see any files. If I create a new subdirectory it's visible but if I create a file it's not.
I've tried changing permissions/ownerships...
I'm trying to install netbackup client 7.5 on a redhat 5.8 server which already has nb client 7.0 installed on it.
I have the the 3 client s/w zip files which I've combined and unzipped/untarred - NetBackup_7.5_CLIENTS.

I'm not a aix or vio guru, more of a Solaris guy.
I have a frame with 2 vio servers and a few client lpars. Recently the frame was moved to a new network as the old one was running out of ips.
The problem surfaced after the move and I've more or less confirmed that the connections to oen vio...
I have a oel server on which we have san storage.

Is there a way to check if a udp port is woring ?
I have a server in a dmz on which I'm having problems getting NIS to work. The firewall guys claim the ports are open. I can test the tcp ports used by NIS using telnet but how do I test the udp ports ?
A server that I'm trying to patch always panics after applying the patch cluster.
Once it panics and I bring it to the ok prompt trying to get a crash dump by typing sync produces this output -

This is rather belated but better late than never.
I joined this board towards the end of 2005 when I knew I would soon be out of a job.
Even though I'd been a sys admin for many years I was kind of rusty and out of touch with Solaris due to the nature of my assignment.
The climb back was...

The home directory is defined as /abc/appid
I want to overided the NIS defined home directory by using a /etc/passwd entry and also use automounter to mount this directory as /home/appid ?
I'm a Solaris guy trying to setup a p520.

I'm in the HMC, selected the correct server (CEC) and I can...
I've been working on Solaris for many years.
I'm currently working at a place which is mainly Solaris but with some AIX as well.
I would like to get certified on AIX and was wondering which certification would be most appropriate for someone with over a decade of Solaris experience ?
I'm running a script which collects information from servers -
ssh <hostname> command
This is taking a long time to complete ( 4000 + servers ) as if a server is offline then ssh takes a long time to timeout.
Is there anyway to change this timeout period without modifying the config files for...
We have a bunch of Solaris hosts on which the tsm agent gets killed for some reason. Anyone else seen this problem before ? How do I identify what's killing it ?
I came across this blog recently and was reminded of all the bitching and moaning over here about support from India.
Reading this blog gives me the impression that customer support is no better in the US -
