    NFS Mount - I think....

    if you have the $, you could always tape/cd backup. if not, just stick with the nfs mount.

    All- nevermind, I fixed it... turns out the root password was blank. to fix, I did the procedure above (you don't need to vi the passwd or shadow files); once you do "shroot" you can just "$passwd root" to change the root password. thanks again

    I did all that, and when I get to the login chooser, if I select root, it says I can't log into that account... is there some kind of security level restriction as there is in linux (this is an Octane workstation, w/ Irix 6.4).. if so, is there any way I can be able to log into root directly...
