    You can actually convert to ntfs from fat32. I believe you goto Run and type cmd At the prompt type convert <drive>:

    Seems you had a corrupt format or install of XP. What program did you use to format the drive? Maybe you should run the XP setup again and let it format the drive for you.

    Well I had a similar problem in Windows Server 2003. For some reason my drive just went haywire and disappeared and was saying that it was RAW. Fortunately I was able to recover the data using Ontrack software and doing a Format recovery while telling it that the previous file system was NTFS...
