Hi Jim,
I won't buy into this problem since I don't have a better answer but in following this thread I am pleased to see a plug for generic object syntax. Although I understand the convenience of 'Me' I always get confused by its ubiquitous use in these forums, especially when the code quoted...
Elegant solution SBendBuckeye.
I posted some questions and thoughts in the Forms forum tonight - principally to suggest that you might want to test your user responses before deciding which form to open.
Is there a record in the underlying table?

Hi Frank,
Got thrown out again - now I know why. Forgot I had set my forms to retrieve email messages from Outlook (not successfully) and opening it gave me 14 instances of the form - with my 'memory' sailing so close to the wind it simply ran out os space.

I don't quite know what the context is but could you do something straighforward like:
Set the Cycle property for the form to Current Record and provide an exit button so users have little option but to add a single record and then quit the form.
I am converting a music database I wrote about six years ago using Access 2 - first to Access 97 then to Access 2000.
One form I have displays a multi-table query recordset sorted on 3 fields say(title, composer and arranger)- I have placed a search button in the header which opens a custom form...
