I'm getting a similar message.. but my is happening at the verify stage of backing up (also on t20). Veritas solutions only mention this problem when trying to restore

What is firewalling the win 2k server? ISA perhaps? If so.. has it correct filters for *protocol* 47
try tightvnc.com for a slightly more optimised vnc.. you lose a bit of quality in the image though.
If you're lucky enough to be running XP on the workstations
then remote desktop is very usable over 56k, and is also free.
had a similar one on a w2k pptp vpn. What solved it for me
was on the client, make sure it is set to pptp and NOT auto.. (connection properties> networking>type of vpn)
dunno if it will work for you..

fire up regedit, hkey local machine/system/currentcontrolset/services/sharedaccess,
hightlight parameters, then delete the 'shared connection' key.
you may want to backup up the registry first if you worry about such things.
