Scan disk and defrag was already carried out.
Virus scan went bugless. So all fine that end.
I carried out the 'Memory Mgt' and denied windows to do it ,as advised.

Due to a different issue[one I have posted on the ME forum], I took my own initiative and re-installed ME on top of my old ME installation.

I use on-line banking from my win[ME], and everything was allright , till yesterday [that's how it all starts doesn't it :-)]
Now when I try to log into my Bank, the Bank browser tells me that it can't read my smart card reader anymore ! In normal circumstances, I would get a PIN...
