Nice one Jad, thanks a lot mate. I guess that'll teach me not to be in such a hurry and to read the small print in future eh? ;-)

    libopt.so.0 no such file error

Above line should read: rsync is from the sunfreeware package. I just installed it on the box because our developers asked me to and the installation caused no problems.

The problem is that the libopt.so.0 does not exist anywhere on the server and I can't seem to find what it is that I need to install to get it. I just wondered if anyone knew which package/source includes libopt.so.0 so I could go get it and install it.....

    serial port loses power

It's like SamBones said, when you disconnect the port for whatever reason the server drops to ok prompt. Uncomment the line in /etc/default/kbd as he said and then type "kbd -i" You shouldn't have the problem any more.

    Measuring CPU with snmp?

Hi Guys, I use Cricket to measure various parameters on my Solaris boxes. I have a contribution to measure CPU load which works on 2 Solris 8 boxes that I'm monitoring. However, when I try this on some Solaris 7 boxes it comes back with all "0" readings. I know I have the correct...

    cd command in scripts?

Got a strange one on a Solaris 6 machine. As part of the script I want to cd into a directory and tar the contents without the / and directory name in front of it. I'm using the absolute pathname of the cd command but for some reason it just doesn't work. I put echo `pwd` straight after it and I...

    Ufsdump question

As someone who's not had to use ufsdump before I'm a little confused. On reading the manpage it says that filesystems should be unmounted before a level 0 dump is done although what happens if I need to dump the root partition on a critical server that cannot be brought down? Does anyone here do...

Compiling apache error: "util_uri.c", line 362: undefined symbol: uri_

Okay, this is sorted now. The uri_delims.h file was empty so I ran the script manually to generate a new one. That did the trick.

When I try to compile apache 1.3.26 with PHP, Mod_Perl, Mod_SSL, MM, CryptSSLeay and OpenSSL the compilation fails with the follwoing errors. I'm not greatly experienced in this kind of thing so if anyone's seen it before and could help, I'd really appreciate it: "util_uri.c", line...

    new to solaris, beginners dilema

Fore looking at file systems to see which disk they're on, you can use the df -k command and look at the /dev/dsk values. Using the format command shows you all available disks and you can match the /dev/dsk values for those to those of the file systems e.g. /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 1638259 1492627...
