Whenever I am sent a link via e-mail or instant messenger to an image that is in .png format, my computer tries to save it to my desktop rather than viewing it in my web browser.

My system was having the above problem, and I turned off most of what XPisfree listed (unless I wasn't sure It wouldn't interfere with what I do, such as use my dsl modem to log on, no logging on means no way to find help) and my problem cleared up. That was friday.
