    Hi thanks played around with and query returned values but I still cannot get it to only return values less than 7.6, i.e. it still returns 10.1.4 in your example. Am obvioudly looking at this the wrong way, thanks for help - James

    Many thanks but this does not seem to work in my case the field can have 20,000 + characters in it, I just need the last 8000 in each case, this seems to start 8000 characters into the text. I guess my query needs to start at the end and work backwards for 8000 characters? Sorry again if not...

    Hi thanks fro response but that gives me the FIRST 8000 characters. e.g if I wanted the last 5 digits when the text in the field was "football is great" I only want to return the word "great" in this case. I need to return the LAST 8000 characters, sorry if not being clear, thanks - James

    Hi Thanks for the response but not sure how you could add the notes field together for each ID with a select ? i.e. select ID, Note would only return all rows I do not have any criteria just that for each ID all the note daat for that ID must be displayed. thanks!!!
