I'm sure Sniffer 2.0 will not work with Windows NT 4.0. If you really want to try Sniffer 2.0, install it on a Windows 95 PC. Hopefully you still have one lying around somewhere collecting dust. :)

The group NetBIOS names come from the <1C> WINS record. If you open your WINS Manager and search for your DOMAIN NAME, you will see a list of records with different types (e.g. 00h, 1Ch, 1Eh, etc.) Double-click on the <1C> record to see the IP addresses of domain controllers...

What version of Sniffer are you running? I tried running a second instance of Sniffer Pro 4.5 in Windows 2000, but it won't let me select the same adapter.

Since you're only after the source and destination addresses (for now), limit the packet size in Ethereal. Start with small packets (<100 bytes). Once you have a better idea, filter on specific IP addresses and capture full packets to determine the nature of the traffic.
