I built my computer a couple years ago, and I've never had this problem before today. For some reason, Windows doesn't recognize either CD-ROM. They show up in the device manager with the "!" on them saying "it's successfully loaded the device driver, but cannot locate the device." I've tried...

Thanks, but did that too...everything in DirectX is working. Most of my games work with no problems. It seems like something happened to the system at some point in time, and since then I can't run a newly installed game.
I ran the program to no avail. I'm the only user on my machine, and have all administrator's privilages. Could this be virus that not's being detected? I'm using domestic software on a domestic machine.
Any more ideas? I could reformat, but I REALLY don't want to do that yet.
I think this has something to do with the copy protection, but I've bought a couple new games recently and neither work. The installation works, and then the game tells me to insert the correct CD-ROM. Usually the disc is already in the drive, but it nothing works. I even tried the games on...
I just moved my sister's HP Pavilion 9900 from her room to mine and now...it won't boot. It's stuck on the HP boot screen. I really don't know what to do...it worked an hour ago just fine. But now, when I press the power button, the blue HP screen comes up and sticks. Anyone have any ideas...
I had Premiere 6.5 installed on my XP computer. After I did a system restore (using Norton Ghost) I tried to reinstall Premiere. It seems to install fine, but when I click the icon to start the program, I get a "Registration is invalid. Please reinstall Premiere." I never used to...
Just out of curiousity: I don't think I've SP1 on my Windows XP Pro at the moment. However, I've got another disc (for my other computer with a Windows XP Pro SP1). Can I take SP1 off that disc, and install it without downloading it?
I recently used Norton Ghost 2002 to restore my computer to what it was last October. Ghost worked great. It's nice to have a fresh start. However, I've lost my network to my Internet Gateway computer in the other room. It's running XP Home, I'm running XP Pro and no matter how many times...
I've looked...and have yet to find, where Windows puts it's critical updates packages on my computer. I'd like to reformat my machine (call it Spring cleaning) and not have to go through the hours of downloading all the Windows Updates. Anyone know how (of if) to back these babies up?
I just bought a nice Logitech 5.1 surround setup for my PC, but when I'm playing a DVD or listening to anything through the coax digital output, I get pops every few seconds. Is this due to my soundcard.
I should clearify, I don't really have a "sound card." It's a C-Media device...
Still didn't work. I did what Boss said and tried to "import foreign disc." However, my disk was not listed. It had a big X on it and said unreadable. I'm thinking about taking this enclosure back, but I really want to be sure.
Any more ideas or suggsetions?
No, it didn't come with any drivers. It said that the Windows XP Mass Storage Device drivers should cover it. I then tried hooking up a plain old CD-Rom to see if would recognize that. It did, but it took F o r e v e r for it to see it, and I never got any of the data off the CD either. The...
I bought a IBM 60GB Harddrive a year or so ago, used it for about a day and took it out of my computer (no data was ever put on it). Today, I bought a Firewire Enclosure for back and transfer and put the 60GB harddrive in it. It spins and everything seems to be working, but Windows XP Pro...
I was just looking at some large files I had in "detail view." I noticed an inconsistantsy though. Next to my file is 715,820 KB, but in the lower left corner (on the Details side-bar: it says 697 MB.
Anyone know why this happens and whice file size is correct?
I've got a file that's 720MB. I'd like to fit it on a CD, but even when I zipped it (709MB) it's still to big. Is there some software or a way to break and reassemble this file so that I can put it on a couple discs?
Thanks!
