    I don't see any problem in your issue. You should be able to invoke parse() with extended class. I can't guess anything without looking at the code snippet.

    You can use JSObject to access javascript methods and DOM of the html page. Put your pop-up logic in javascript method and invoke it from the Applet. Find more information on JSObject at http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/docs/jsobject.html
