Hello all,
I have Win2K-Server domain controller, and a bunch of Win9x and a few WinNT4, Win2K & WinXP client PCs.
One, and thus far only one, of my users cannot log on to the domain if the client PC is NT/2K/XP. She can only log on if it's a Win9x client PC.
This has never happened until...
Hi BigBZ,
Please check out thread # 779-540802 & 779-527315. You will find the solution to your problem in there. As hinted above, your problem revolves around your DNS setting on the XP machines.
Contrary to all previous versions of Windows, XP uses DNS for LAN name resolution (inc most DC...
Hi Calvin Tse,
I re-posted this issue a few weeks later on thread 779-540802, and received another 2 responses, both of which had positive effects, particularly Mr Magic BCastner's information regarding WinXP's need to have its DNS server setting pointing to the domain controller (which can...
To 'bcastner' & 'imasystemsanalyst/Scott',
Thankyou both very much for your helpful posts. The symptoms I described have now been almost entirely eliminated.

Now a few days later (after what changes I don't know), any subsequent attempt...
On my Win2K AD domain controller, I have a shared folder called "users" (ie d:\users), and under that a bunch of folders named with each user's username also individually shared (ie "amfony" as d:\users\amfony).
My logon script first deletes all drive mappings that may have...
I have a 6-month-old Dell Dimension 2200 PC (Celeron 1.3GHz) running WinXP-Pro (no SP initially).
It was initially connected to a WinNT4 Domain Server. It is the only WinXP-Pro workstation connecting to the domain (all others are Win95/98/NT4/2K).
However intermittently and unpredictably and...
