I have discovered a way to thwart the problem.
it seems that the emails I've been using, be it hotmail or earthlink or whatever, through OE or HTTP, need someone located in the To: address box. so what I do is put my list on the Bcc: box and a bogus address in the To: box.

when I had win98, I could connect/disconnect every time without having to reboot. since XP arrived home, I'm having to reboot if I want to connect again to the internet. mine is an SM56 Motorola or something like that, can't remember but probably right, that came with the motherboard.
