Thanks for your replies!
As for content filtering, sites are usually filtered at the domain level (so the site doesn't come up when the RUL is entered). This behavior - of partially blank screens - happens in COMPOSE and REPLY, but not when reading mail. So the situation actually seems more...
Hi everyone,
This is a browser, possibly a network issue:
Yahoo Mail looks weird when sending and composing mail at work (it's a MSIE browser and outdate McAfee virus scan).
When I plug a notebook into the network (with newer MSIE version, current virus scan, etc.) THE SAME BEHAVIOR HAPPENS...
i think everyone's definition of "decent pay" varies based on location (plains states not the same as Silicon Valley, NYC, or DC... which aren't the same as more moderate areas along the east coast)
and CERTAINLY, "decent" has been adjusted (downward) since 2001, where technicians with 2-5 yrs...
sounds like a set up or they're writing you off. in either case, you're not in the "know". best case is that you develop a new skill set while you're there (as in "there looking for another job"). be sure to documents all assignments, and conversations about work; try to do...
The weirdest thing has happened to a spreadsheet (version 2000) with 2+ years worth of monthly data across multiple accounts (hint: it would be devastating to loose or have to recreate this thing):
1) when attempting to drag cell contents, the pointer doesn't change into a fill handle.

there's a win xp client, that can't Print To Printer from MS Word (but *can* print to printer from notepad, test page, browser). MS Word help has been no help, in that all "print to file" and "background printing" checkboxes are unchecked (file -> print, and tools -> options...
Need to confirm that our browsers offer 128bit encryption? Is that a mfr (MSFT, Netscape) standard? or configurable by users (in the browser itself - tools, options...)
thanks :)
Files are being saved under "All users" so that users can get to work whether logged in locally (from satellite office they login locally then connect to VPN) or into domain (when working from headquarters). However, the files under All Users are coming up as "read only"...
I currently teach an Introduction to IS class that covers MS Office applications (plus some hw sw os background, internet overview, etc). Since "subject matter expertise" is the name of the game nowadays, I've been debating whether there's ANY credibility or market value for...

I've browsed threads looking for this one - I'm stumped (again). It's a Windows 2k Pro (SP3) Dell, being configured on a W2kserver network running ADS and DHCP. So - under Network ID, when changing from the default "workgroup" to "domain", this ONE PARTICULAR PC doesn't...
go figure on the resolution to the Dell OptiPlex hanging on start up...
well, we didn't buy MONITORS from Dell, so we're using existing 15" CRTs (this particular one happened to be a Samsung SyncMaster, mfred 1998).
So, after a new HD from Dell, then an OS and driver reinstalls, the same...

well, we didn't buy MONITORS from Dell, so we're using older 15" VGA CRTs (this particular monitor happened to be a Samsung SyncMaster, mfred 1998).

ciaobaby: Yes, users are added on each workstation as well as the server. This was done unbeknowngst to me (corporate IT comes in every blue moon with some ineffective super-imposed set up and other "policy"). Anyhow, these clients are now BACK on the domain, but still have Local...
let me try rephrasing - for what reason do users need to logon to "local PC"? i'm trying to determine how probable it is to use Local vs Domain access. thanks...
TedM - ( i hear ya on the <wink>) the PCs were shipped with 256MB RAM, and running W2000 Pro; no upgrades since, so we should be okay...
stingers - whew, hope you're a full time tech - that was alot. uhm, since that client worked OFF the network, but locked when on - is it configuration...
Users who sign onto "this computer" (local computer where Win2k Pro defaults an administrator and a guest login) can still access network resources (internet, mapped drives, group policy).
This is the same as when they log onto the domain.
I find this potentially confusing because...
Thanks for your reply...
- PC has not yet been removed from network, so we don't know if behavior is the same
- No updates have been downloaded from Dell. When entering the service tag # on support.dell.com, and selecting OptiPlex, Gx240, we get hardware components, no drivers, resource CD...
