    Benefits of Upgrading laptop

I have been backing up the hard drive pretty regularly, so that's not an issue really. I use the laptop for business a lot. Normal Word, Excel, Powerpoint stuff. Plus web things. I also do database design and data modeling here, and this laptop seems to run the tools well. I also run music...

    Benefits of Upgrading laptop

I admit it. I'm a late adopter, and I stay with things wayy too long. And I'm sort of a "If it ain't broke don't fix it" person. But my current work laptop is 7 years old! So here I am asking for thougts on buying a new laptop. My current laptop is: HP G71 with 17" screen, 1600x900 max res...

    GP Definitions and Descriotions

Well, I don't have ready access to GP either. But, I do have a file named "Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Table Reference, Version 1.1" that provides some more descriptive names for the tables. What I'm trying to do is create a data dictionary with table and column information including...

    GP Definitions and Descriotions

We're creating a reporting data mart that is fed in large part with data from Great Plains. We need descriptive data field names, and really should have textual definitions for the fields. I've not seen any of this. Any ideas how to get human readable names and definitions?

    32bit vs 64bit

It's not just old DOS programs. I have Windows 7 64-bit, and while it will run most 32-bit programs, I have several that just will not run on 64 bit. For example, the updater that updates the firmware in my bluetooth headset just won't run, no matter what. Same for my E-book reader software.

    Hide file

In Windows XP, I have files and folders unhidden. But I'd like to hide just certain folders, not all that area marked hidden. Is there a way to selectively hide folders?

Any openoffice 2 / ms office 2003 pro conflicts

I would agree with Tony. I've switched my entire company to OO about 3 versions ago. Version 2.0 is as close to 100% compatible with MSO as I can tell. The ONLY thing I know of that might cause compatibility issues is macros. And I had machines with both on them for weeks during conversion...

    Word Documents won't Download?

Something happened, and I can't open Word documents in IE anymore. When we try to open a Word document in a webpage, it appears to try to open, but IE gets a blank window with a Red X in the upper left hand corner. I can usually right click the document in the webpage and save it to disk, but...

Killing processes starting at boot time

In the old days, we'd look in autoexec.bat and config.sys for programs that automatically started. Then when Windows got here, we'd also look in win.ini and system.ini. Then it was these, plus the startup folder. But I've looked in all these places, and a lot of what starts isn't there. So...

Messenger? Generic Host Process for Win32 Server?

I often see traffic on the firewall that I didn't know was happening. So I look at what it is (using ZoneAlarm) and it says repeatedly one of two things: 1. Messenger 2. Generic host PRocess for Win32 Server. I've disalbled and stopped the Messenger service under Adminstrative...

Windows ME Logon won't go away.

No, it's the same login box after I did everything suggested. And, if I don't put a login name in it, it won't let me past the login. I can put a login name in, or I can cancel. But I never put a password in.

Windows ME Logon won't go away.

Well, I did all that and it STILL gives me the logon box. Here's what I did: 1) Went to Start->Settings->Control Panel. Double-clicked Network. "Windows LOGON" was already the Primary Network Logon. And "All Users use the same profile" was checked. 2) Went to...

Windows ME Logon won't go away.

I never used to have to logon, since I'm the only user on my computer, unless I had the network card in when I boot, and then it would give me the logon screen. But now, every time I log on, networked or not, I get this logon box. And even when I'm on the network I don't require a userid, since...

How does demo software "time out" work.

How does demo software know when to time out and quit working? I downloaded a piece of demo software 3 years ago, and it was new and not really ready for prime time yet. So I deleted it, all of it I thought. Today, I saw the new improved version, and thought I'd give it a try again. But it...
