You can trace this back with `lsof` using the following:
#lsof -l | grep "whatever"
#lsof -p PID (whatever the pid of the grep is)
#lsof /dev/pts/X (where X is the pts device under the NAME column)
I used to get bonuses from $7,500-$10,000. Then $1,000 bonus. Then, salary cut of 8%. Then, let go (downsized). Then new job of about 8% less than my pay after the first cut.
But, 16% less pay is better than 0% pay.
The reason was it had a character (not visable) in front of it, something like: [^filename
Whenever that happens, I use ksh and set an array:
set -A FILES $(ls /etc)
and delete the index:
rm ${FILES[2]}
Where the '2' is the 3rd file (ksh starts counting at 0).
Speaking of money being wasted - I work for a fed gov't contractor which uses an RS/6000 SP system, however, because some homegrown apps don't work, they attribute this to AIX. Their solution is to go with Sun.
Also, the Sr. Engineer in charge of all this, and the one who made the decision to...
CSM is replacing PSSP, but RSCT has been packaged with AIX 5L. Here is a Hints and Tips link that describes RSCT:

And until or if the BSDs or Linux variations make installations as simple as Windblows, for example, when I added xcdroast, an X11 front-end to burn cd's on my BSD machine I had to add a line to the kernel and compile. John & Jane Q. Public are not going to do that, so until simplicity is...
I swear that Microsoft developers have a mantra - let's see what piece of bloated, unstable, security-ridden, useless feature we can add.
If the public wasn't so ignorant then MS would have been sued years ago for defective software. My only hope would be for the California class action lawsuit...
This sounds SO much more difficult than it is on AIX and looks a lot like BSD. Unfortunately, I am going to have to learn Solaris because that is what is being migrated to from AIX.
I will be hit hard for this statement, however, if one lives in a large- or medium-size city there is most likely a college or university. And they probably offer accelerated degrees if that is your gig (paper not learning).
For one to take a purely onine degree, grad or undergard, I believe is...
NeXT anyone?
OS/2 anyone?
Yes, there were viable alternatives, some better than MS but for whatever reason they died.
As for the enterprise, there are some places where you do want a Wintel solution because of cost, not a critical 24x7 app, etc. My complaint is that Bill sees and wants MS to...
I wouldn't say MicroMoney's talent is in design. Far from it from a lot of aspects.
Just taking a desktop workstation for example, my FreeBSD workstation can run 5 compiles, use my browser and run xmms to play multimedia files without any notice of impact to my system. With Winblows, I am lucky...
Micromoney, has purchased more competitors and acquired more software through mergers and acquisitions than through their own product development.
It is the reigning desktop because it is simple for people to use. Linux for a desktop is still nowhere near the simplicity of MS's bloatware. I...
When I was looking for a job I was told that Chicago and St. Louis were not impacted as the rest of the country in the IT area and there were still jobs available. Not sure if this is true or not but I would suspect it to a degree.
One thing to remember is that it is business - how is going to...
