Hi. Thanks for your replies. yes, I was basically looking for a way to have the printer be deployed to the PC via group policy wihout having to actually go to the PC and connect it manually. These printers are remote over a slow WAN, so I didn't want every print job to have to traverse the link...
Hi. We have a Server 2003 Print Server that uses print management to deploy shared printers via Group Policy. This feature is built right into Print Management.
I am wondering if I can set up XP with the same ability? I know XP can operate as a print server, but to my knowledge does not have...
Solved. The reason the printers were not in AD is because they were pruned for some reason, maybe losing connections to the printers. That was caused by a bad driver.
If anyone else has this problem, check the drivers!!!
The RPC is failing because of a print spool crash. The script gets to one of the printers and crashes the print spooler. Since the print spooler initiates the RPC call, the script fails.
I found that the printers that are causing the failure are not being listed in AD for some reason. I have...
Ok then, how about this:
is there a way to delay a GPO from executing for a few seconds after logon? Like adding a batch file with a wait command? I'm thinking it might be trying to execute before wireless is fully initialized.
Hi. I created a printer deploy GPO per this guide:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722179.aspx
It uses an executable and a print server to push printers to users or computers. Here's the problem... when a user logs on, the printer GPO gets read, but it crashes the print spooler and...

Hi. I have a problem that has been bugging one of my coworkers. They are part of a mailing list that sends their messages MIME-encoded. For some reason, either Outlook or Exchange doesn't like the MIME encoding and only displays a bunch of gobbledegoop and only a small part of the message. MIME...
Great, thanks for the replies. Yes, it was a 5.5 Org. I guess for some reason the 2000 upgrade back in the day didn't get rid of the groups so I thought they were still needed.
This is driving me crazy. I am running Exchange 2003 in a recently upgraded 2003 domain. The Exchange security groups, "Exchange Administrators" and "Exchange Enterprise Administrators" have disappeared from AD. I don't know if this happened when I upgraded the DC's from 2000 to 2003, or some...

Thanks for all the help with this. I don't know if I am completely stupid or what, but I can't get it to do exactly what I want.
(BTW, both file servers need to be running 2003 R2 in order to take advantage of DFSR? My old one is running 2000, so I am stuck with FRS replication)
Anyways...
Great! Thanks for the reply. It will be running R2. I also plan to use logon scripts through Group Policy to map drives for users. Should I set up DFS first and map the drives to the DFS namespace? Do I need to change those mappings at all when I take the old server off of the namespace or will...
Hi,
I am migrating file servers to a new 2003 Enterprise Server from a Server 2000 box. What would be the best way to copy the files over without any down time?
Is there a way to do it so client shortcuts to server shares still work?
The three options I've heard are:
1: File Server Migration...
So it was probably the GC. After I stopped advertising the old DC, stuff connected to the new DC. Thanks.
Only other (weird) problem I am having is computers in that domain can log in, but the network is veerry slow. It sits at the "applying profile settings" for about 5 minutes and it takes...
The new box is a GC. I just disabled GC on the old box, will that take awhile to come into play? DNS is AD-integrated; both the old server and the new server SRV records are in "_LDAP._TCP.dc._msdcs.domainname". Should I manually delete the old server's SRV records from there so clients don't...
Hi.
I have 3 DC's in 2 geographical sites. Site1 has 2 DC's (one with all FSMO roles and the other as primary DNS/DHCP); site2 has one DC (secondary DNS/DHCP).
I am replacing a 10 year old 2000 DC in site2 with a new 2003 DC. The DC was running DHCP, WINS, and DNS with an AD-integrated zone...
Hi,
We are doing a domain migration and from I have read, it is recommended that you keep seperate domain names for inside and outside. (Lets say domain.net for inside and domain.com for outside). So basically the world should only see domain.com. Registering two domain names is no problem.
