    Ok, found out the problem... You need to have mysql-devel package installed. After I installed that, and ran both you gcc command and the apxs command, it works like a champ. Thanks for all the help and I wish I could have found this problem earlier. Thomas

    you can't compile it without the apxs utility, it is a .c file and needs to be compiled IN apache so apache can use the .so module.
