i officially give up on version 2. i reinstalled 1.3.27 configured the conf and it's up and running. I was really hoping to use 2 but what can you do? thanks for all the help.
i am actually not running service pack 1 but it never mattered before. LIke i said this was a clean instal on a freshly fdisked drive. the server works before virtual hosts are added but when starting the virtual host it goes down. anyways let me know how it goes.

i was really hoping to keep 2 setup but thats my final option. although I have severely crippled my conf now for the older version and may need help getting that up and running too.
no luck with that one either rhythem. refuses to start when i add anything into the virtual hosts. as far as your setup goes i dont use an htdocs inside my document root but i do have an error folder. The program doesnt seem to be recording errors however. wierd
made the changes as you suggested and the service will still not start up. the error folders are in both directories and there are 2 seperate directories in c:/www -- crakerentertainment and hleonegraphics. any other ideas?

i getthe errors when trying to start apache. I am using notepad to edit the conf. and adding my virtual hosts to the working conf doesnt seem to pull from the virtual host containers as i still get the start up apache page even after restarting.

those are the places in the conf where i am getting errors when trying to start the service. when i go to test configuration it tells me what line the errors are on. when left uncomented the service will not start.

alright changed the docroot to c:/www and it's still serving the page from htdocs. there is only one file in the conf folder for it to read. i dont understand what else it could be reading. The main page is plain html no php. index.html to be specific. I am kinda at a loss as to what to do now?
