we've a script at /etc/rd.d called oracleSID (owner root:system) with two start or stop commands for the database and the listener.
(su - oracle "-c . ./.profile;echo "startup | sqlplus -s '/as sysdba'" for the database and su - oracle "-c . ./.profile;$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start")...
