Go to the command prompt first so you can see the output of net /?
Sorry, but you're really not going to get this to work well with Home version. Password management is going to be a nightmare.
I am upgrading the network from XP Pro 32 to Windows 7 Pro x64. XP Power Users could install and run ActiveX controls, however users on Windows 7 x64 cannot install the controls from sites on the Internet or on the internal intranet. They do not even seem to be getting a prompt. (Flash...
We have made extremely heavy use of deploying most of our apps to computers using AD and GPOs. We now have it so all we have to do is boot of the nic on a new computer and use RIS/WDS to deploy Windows and whatever AD OU the computer is in it will get 90% of its apps automatically.
We are...
We are having a very strange issue with both XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit clients when we moved some CAD files over to a Windows 2008 STD server. The problem is only with the files that end in .dwg and it does not matter what program opens the files (Autocad 14, Solidworks DWG Editor...
I deploy almost every app possible via AD and GPOs. Every department has its own container and all the apps and settings I want. For example the AD container Computers/Engineering/Developing has the following deployed via GP
MS Office 2003
Adobe Reader X
SolidWorks 2011
Visual Studio 2005...
My hardware is getting a little old for my Exchange 2003 on W2k3 x32 server and the large amount of mail I have on it. I was thinking of just bringing up a whole new server on W2003 x64.
If I do this and move the mailboxes through exchange will I lose my single instance storage on my mail...
Here is a link that explains the bug in the firmware. It does not matter what the old router was or the new one that is on the network with it. The 1.0.10 and above firmware takes care of it.
It was really tough to find this article with the variety of queries I googled, however once I found...
I have Windows 2003 R2 x64. I attached a Sony Lib-81 library with a single AIT4 drive. I setup the Lib for sequential mode so when I backup the server using NTBackup and my backups use more than one tape the next tape will autoload.
The library has 8 slots. I setup Slot 8 as the cleaning...
Long story short - There was a bug in the firmware that I had where if you have another router on the same subnet the 3Com Gigabit VPN device would read traffic as a DoS attack and block it. That is why I could ping and tracert, but no services like MS file/print, etc. would bounce off the...
The short story:
I replaced a low end firewall with a 3Com Gigabit Firewall model 3CREVF100-73. The low end firewall had some static routes on it to redirect traffic for internal subnets to a different default gateway however the same settings on the 3Com do not see to be taking. The traffic...
Your wasting Server 3 on an FTP server. Just add that service to the web server and open the FTP and HTTP/HTTPS ports on the Firewall. Keeping it as a stand alone server will also minimize any security and trust mis-configurations as well.
You can setup the FW so that you can only RDP to that...
Yes, that works fine. You just don't configure any other host names to respond to and you should be OK.
This works for W2k Server, and W2003. I don't know about 2K08.
I have been using Crystal 8 PageServer for several years. My web page is very simple. Just the list of reports as hyperlinks and the hyperlink is:
http://Server/CrystalReports/myreport.rpt?init=actx
This is working well, however the users just complain that the activeX control is the whole...
Turns out that there was some sort of time issue. All of the client, the DC and the WDS server seemed to have the same time, however the Win7 PE seemed to read the time zone on the DC as -4:00 time instead of EST time of -5:00
I added the syncronis command "Net time \\mydc /set /y" to the 1st...
I am trying to move to Windows 2003 WDS from RIS. Or should I say I already got the RIS images moved over and working under Legacy mode fine.
2000 and XP were a piece of cake under RIS and and now legacy mode on getting the drivers installed however this new image file and xml answer file...
I have an application that uses a SQL2000 back end. The application can have many instances. For each instance you just create another database on the SQL server. This particular server has 4 databases for 4 different companies that use their app:
APPDB_1
APPDB_2
APPDB_3
APPDB_4
I have...
I want to setup a couple of directories on my W2003 server so that only certain users can view the pages, but I don't want anyone to get a prompt for username and password.
http://server/accounting (Just Accounting can access)
http://server/sales (Just Sales can access)
http://server/everyone...
One thing I always hated was when someone would configure a folder for access by a user name instead of a group. I am working with someone to try to sort out a couple of servers where the access is littered with usernames all over the folders and subfolders.
I there some sort of utility...
