Here is the table restructure. i put the links under the doc info table for sake of the form. Do you think this will be okay? I'm getting ready to run the archive and interface :)

I think I am almost done with the tables. I am moving most of the info back to the doc info table to prevent having to write an extensive user's guide after this is finished. I did keep the workflow table for Draft Evaluations and the Annual Review. (A draft eval is making sure the SOP does...
Thanks so much MajP. I have a few access books and a step by step visual basic book, but I will definitely get the book you suggested. I have no idea why they are making me do this either, they said it is part of the learning process (ahhhh). But I have already learned an extraordinary amount...
I redid the tables the way you suggested, that really made things a lot simpler, I misunderstood Duane. I had an issue deciding what to do about the draft evaluations, since there are several reviews involving up to 3 people. Let me know if this isn't what you had in mind.
Thanks!!
Nicole...
MajP: What if we take out the PO Number completely for the sake of sanity? I am working on the docInfo table tonight and the forms if time permits, if not I should put a dent in them tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help!!
MajP. The user interface works great!! It is extremely user friendly and you are right, if they can't find their document then they have bigger problems :) The people associated are always employees and I have ammended the tables accordingly. The other actions you mentioned are management...
MajP: I made a description of what I want to do for the whole database so that I can keep everything straight. I pasted it below. Also, I just wanted to repeat how grateful I am for all of your help!!!
I want to make sure Duane doesn't see anymore glaring errors with the tables before I...
dhookom: I see what you mean with the tables being separate, I added a description type (devEvalType:Field, QAQC, SOP Lead in tblDraftEvalsWF instead of separate tables for each one, the same for sigFrom and tblSigWF).
MajP: I added the date/time stamp.
This is the link to the database and...

Wow I must have been tired last night. I broke up the signatures into workflows for each person but did not in the workflow table (oops). I also had the docWF (join table) reversed with the workflow lookup table. This should be right. There are 10 workflows. Sorry. Please let me know if...
OK! I have the tables in workflows!! Below are the tables/relationships and I have posted the database at
SOP-DCS-Tables-Workflows.docx
Please let me know what you guys think. I changed ChangeType to ChangeCategory, I figured it could be confusing with DocumentType. I re-labeled...
Duane, sorry, nevermind about the tables--I finally got a pretty good grasp on what to do to restructure them(it is starting to make more sense to me now, I'm a little slow) so will have the new tables posted tonight.
Duane, I'm going to go ahead and redo the tables in the workflow design you suggested tonight. You said I'm not normalized, which columns do you think I should eliminate?
I decided not to do the workflow because MajP had done so much work trying to help me already. This process really won't change since they have been doing the same way since the 70s. Duane, do you think it is possible to do it this way? Where did I go wrong with the tables? I really...
Hi MajP! Thank you so much for all of your help!! I think I have the database reorganized according to your suggestions. I put in some trial data. Here's the link to the updated database:
SOP Document Control System-Tek-Help.accdb
I added an archive table so that I can hopefully cut and...
You are AMAZING MajP!! I am going to jump on this first thing in the morning. I just might sleep tonight for the first time in a month :) Thank you so much.
Thanks Duane! I'm restructuring the tables now. You are absolutely correct, work flows would be a great solution. I have had a hard time trying to develop this database, I have developed very small straightforward databases before but this is driving me up a wall! I appreciate all of your help!
Thank you Duane and MAjP!! I have never posted to anything like this before, and I really had not expected anyone to respond...odds were in my favor to have something terribly wrong!
I have broken this thread into 3 questions and this thread is now closed and accessible at the following...
