AFAIK, this is part of the original SGI GL design (before OpenGL). It was never and it will never be available for something else than SGI. However, OpenGL for Linux should be available soon...
No, you don't need the domain name, but you have to be sure that the name service is working correctly. Try for example:<br>
ping fubar1<br>
from the client computer and see if it works.<br>
Then try to connect to fubar1 using rsh (but this should only work as normal user, not as root!).<br>...
