Have to repeatedly format hard drive.
Thanks, You've answered my question. Heat problem on controller board makes sense to me as well. Not the cable, had this drive do the same thing in a hard drive box set up for usb. I checked the warrantee, it's out, so I scrapped it. Thanks again.- Joeskyman

Have to repeatedly format hard drive.
I've got a used 30gig Maxtor I'm using as Primary-slave for storage and backup files only. I've partitioned and formated the drive using XP Admin tools as well as Maxblast. I can copy files and folders to it and access them without a problem, but after a few days I get "drive not accessable"...- Joeskyman
