Upgrading with older/discontinued graphics card (Radeon 8500)

Problem with GeForce FX 5200
I have a similar issue. I bought a PNY Verto 5200 AGP card for my Compaq 5WV270 and my comp is not recognizing it at all (amber monitor lght, flared comp activity that dies after a few seconds, fans blow).
