    could not open filename.bmp because of disk error

    ok, i get this error "could not open filename.bmp because of disk error" whenever i try to load some of my images larger than about 150 megapixels (somewhere between 100 and 200 seems to be the cuttoff). How do i get around this? i mean, these images have to be opened to be resized...
