    In case this is useful for anyone else I have now resolved this issue after research on the adobe support site. Changing the postscript driver from generic to the Acrobat Distiller now means the file generates in colour in pdf format.

    I have new colour images for a manual in pagemaker. When converting to PDF via distiller the file appears to be converted to greyscale.
