    Thanks everyone. WinTar did the trick perfectly. You may however be aware that the demo version of this package is limited to the first 1200 files on tape, but the price of $90.oo makes it a very worthwile little ditty for these occassions. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOU TIMELY TIPS.
