Success--I found re-installation software that came with the computer, deleted NAV 2002, reinstalled it, suffered through all the inevitable updates, and now it works as before. Thanks for your help, bygeek!
Also, forgot to mention--uninstall/reinstall is not an option, since I sent the original disk to MacAfee to get a rebate on their AV system for my laptop. Next time, I'll make a copy of it first....
