I actually found the solution. The MWI rule defined for this subscriber had the FAX and VOICE options checked under the subscriber option. So everytime the user got a new fax, the light would stay on. So i changed the rule by unchecking the FAX option for MWI and activating it only for VOICE...

by the way, im running MM 3.1 with an exchange backend.

Yes, it has a mail box - it an extension for a user. There are no unopened mails in outlook or anything else i can find that could be causing this...please advise.
