Solution was to start over in "Add a network place" and label each computer. Started from the beginning. Thanks for all responses. Much appreciated.

I took your suggestion and rebooted into safe mode. The drive is fully operational in safe mode, so there has to be a part of full-blown windows that is blocking the use of the drive. Any suggestions on how to detect what is doing this ?
